§ 2-273. Director of public works.

  • There is created a position of director of public works. The council shall appoint the director of public works to have general, day-to-day supervisory authority over the following departments: (a) streets and public improvements; and (b) public property. The director of public works shall coordinate the efforts of employees in those said departments to promote efficient operation of city services and expenditure of public funds. The director of public works shall communicate with the commissioner of streets and public improvements and the commissioner of public property regarding the overall direction for their respective departments and shall report to the commissioners on progress toward those goals. The director shall further report to the council on such basis as the council deems necessary regarding the functioning of the departments over which he/she is the supervisor. The council may in its discretion appoint one or more assistant directors of public works to provide support for the director of public works as the council deems necessary.
