§ 106-307. Separate sewers for separate buildings; ejector pumps required.

Latest version.
  • (a)

A separate and independent building sewer shall be provided for every building, except that a sewer may be shared between the principle building and an accessory structure located on the same lot.

    (b)

Sanitary service from basements and other floors below grade shall be connected to the sanitary service utilizing a sewer ejector pump (overheard sewers). Direct connection of basements and/or lower floors to a gravity service line shall not be permitted unless it can be shown that the rim of the manhole on the upstream end of the sewer to which the service sewer will be connected is below the hydraulic grade line at a slope of one percent measured from the lowest basement drain. Property owners who believe their property falls within this exception shall request exemption by providing to the city engineer or his/her designee a sketch showing the proposed gravity service sewer with sewer lengths and relative elevations. The city engineer shall verify the accuracy of the information provided and may grant the exemption in his discretion. Upon receiving an exemption, the property owner must agree to hold the city harmless in the event of a back-up related to the absence of an ejector pump.
